How it works
Every audio sample is multiplied by your chosen percentage (100% leaves it unchanged, 50% halves the volume, 200% doubles it) and capped at the loudest and quietest values the format allows, to prevent digital distortion from a value trying to go louder than "maximum."
Why higher isn't always better
Pushing volume too high causes clipping — the peaks get flattened rather than continuing to grow — which sounds harsh or distorted rather than genuinely louder. If you see the clipping warning, try a lower percentage.
