How it works
Each page gets a "current / total" label (like 3 / 12) placed at the position you choose. Existing page content is left untouched.

Exact placement
The label "page / total" is set in Helvetica at 10 points. Bottom center and bottom right put the baseline 12 points above the bottom edge, and Top center puts it 24 points below the top. Bottom right ends 24 points from the right edge. On a US Letter page (612 × 792 points), "3 / 12" is 25.02 points wide, so bottom center starts at x = 293.49, bottom right starts at x = 562.98, and Top center sits at y = 768. On A4 (595.28 × 841.89), "10 / 12" at bottom right starts at x = 540.70.
What gets counted
Every page is numbered, starting from 1 on the first page, including any cover. The total is simply the number of pages in the file, so a 12-page PDF is labelled "1 / 12" through "12 / 12". There are no choices for font, size or color, and no option to skip pages or begin at another number. The numbers are drawn on every page whether it holds text or a scanned picture, because the tool only adds text on top of each page. The download is named numbered.pdf.
Limits
There is no page range, no odd-and-even setting and no Roman numerals. PDFs up to 100 MB are accepted. A corrupted or password-protected file produces a message saying the numbers could not be added. The label sits only 12 points from the bottom edge, so a page whose own content reaches that margin can overlap it.

What format are the page numbers in?
Each page is labeled "current / total", like 3 / 12. Custom formats (like a prefix or Roman numerals) aren't currently supported.
Will this overwrite content already on the page?
It's placed in a margin area, but if a page's existing content extends very close to the edge, it could overlap — check the result before using it.
Can I start numbering from a page other than 1?
No. The first page is always 1, and the number after the slash is the total page count of the file.
How big is the page number text?
It is 10-point Helvetica, with no font or size options. On a Letter page, "3 / 12" is about 25 points wide.
Why does the label include the total?
The tool always writes the "current / total" form. If you only want the current number, you would need a different tool, since the format cannot be changed here.
