How it works
The document's text and basic formatting (headings, paragraphs, bold/italic, simple lists) are read directly from the .docx file and rendered as a PDF. Tables carry over with their rows, columns, and gridlines intact. Complex layouts, embedded objects, and advanced styling may not carry over exactly as they appear in Word.
What happens during conversion
The .docx is first read into simple web content, keeping the text, headings, lists, bold and italic, tables and embedded pictures. That content is then laid out on A4 pages and saved as a PDF. It is a re-creation of the document, not a copy of Word's page layout, so a five-page report with headings, bullets and a table will keep its wording and table grid, but page breaks will fall in different places.
What usually does not carry over
- Headers, footers and page numbers.
- Fonts. Your document's typefaces are not embedded, so the PDF uses default fonts.
- Text boxes, multi-column layouts, charts, SmartArt and floating objects.
- The original page size and margins. A US Letter document becomes A4 with fixed margins.
Before you rely on the PDF
Pages are drawn through an image-based renderer, so text in the PDF may not be selectable or searchable, and the file can be larger than one exported from Word. Check the first and last pages before sending it. For contracts, forms, CVs with a designed layout or anything that must look identical to the original, use Save as PDF inside Word, which keeps fonts, page breaks and links. A document protected by a password cannot be converted.

Does this work with .doc (older Word format)?
No — only the modern .docx format is supported.
Why does my PDF look different from the Word document?
The converter rebuilds the content from the text and basic formatting in the file. It doesn't reproduce Word's layout engine, so fonts, headers and footers, and page breaks can differ from the original.
Will the text in the PDF be selectable?
It may not be. The pages are produced by drawing the rendered content, which can leave the result as images with no selectable text. If you need searchable text, export from Word directly.
