Text Tools

Word counts, case conversion, and other everyday text utilities — fast, private, and entirely browser-based.

About these tools

The seven tools on this page handle text in three ways. Word & Character Counter shows words, characters with and without spaces, sentences and paragraphs as you type, along with a reading time worked out at 200 words per minute. Text Case Converter displays several versions of your text together, including upper case, lower case, Title Case, Sentence case and alternating case, so you can copy the one you want. Text Diff Checker compares two blocks of text and highlights what was added or removed, either word by word or line by line, and the comparison is case-sensitive.

Two tools turn pictures into text with OCR that runs in your browser: Image to Text reads a photo, screenshot or single-page scan and gives a confidence score, and Scanned PDF to Text runs the same recognition on every page of a PDF, in the language you pick from English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi or Portuguese. The last two tools deal with speech. Text to Speech reads your text aloud with an offline English voice you choose, and lets you download the same audio as a WAV; Speech to Text transcribes your microphone live in one of ten languages. OCR accuracy depends on how clear the source is, and handwriting is far less reliable than print. The counting, case and comparison tools never send your text anywhere.
