Tip Calculator
Work out the tip amount and total bill, and split it evenly between any number of people.
The formula
Tip = Bill × Tip% ÷ 100. Total = Bill + Tip. Each person's share = Total ÷ Number of people.
Worked example
An 850 bill with a 15% tip split four ways: the tip is 127.50, the total is 977.50, and each person pays 244.38.
Common tipping guidelines
Typical tip percentages vary widely by country and service type — often 10–15% for casual dining and 15–20% for full-service restaurants where tipping is customary. Check local norms if you're travelling, since some countries don't expect tipping at all.
Frequently asked questions
Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?
Conventions vary, but most guidance suggests tipping on the pre-tax subtotal. Enter whichever amount you intend to base the tip on — the calculation works the same either way.
Does this round each person's share to a clean number?
No — it shows the exact even split. If you want to round up to a convenient number, add a little extra when settling up so everyone's contribution covers the total.
