GPA Calculator
Add each course's credit hours and grade to get your credit-weighted GPA on the standard 4.0 scale.
The formula
Weighted GPA = (sum of credit hours × grade points for each course) ÷ (total credit hours). This gives courses worth more credits a proportionally larger effect on the final average.
Worked example
Two courses — a 4-credit A (4.0) and a 3-credit B (3.0) — give (4 × 4.0 + 3 × 3.0) ÷ (4 + 3) = 25 ÷ 7 ≈ 3.57, not a simple average of 3.5, because the 4-credit course carries more weight.
Frequently asked questions
What GPA scale does this use?
The default grade points follow the common US 4.0 scale (A = 4.0 down to F = 0.0). If your institution uses a different scale, enter the equivalent grade point value for each course instead — the credit-weighting math is the same.
Why are credit hours needed, not just grades?
A weighted GPA gives more influence to courses worth more credits, so a 4-credit A counts for more than a 1-credit A.
Does this calculate a cumulative GPA across multiple semesters?
Yes, as long as every course from every semester you want included is entered in one list.
