How the conversion works
Every rate here is expressed relative to the US Dollar. To convert between any two other currencies, the amount is first converted to USD, then from USD to the target currency — this is the standard way multi-currency rate tables work, and it gives the same result as a direct rate would.

Why aren't the rates live/real-time?
This site is a static, client-side app with no backend server, so there's no live service to query when you load the page. Rates are fetched once when the site is built and deployed, then served to every visitor from that snapshot until the next deploy.
How often are the rates updated?

Where does the data come from?
